Being barefoot means your feet flex, splay, and grip more. This builds foot strength and encourages even weight distribution, improving balance that will lead to healthy movement patterns.

All that flexing, splaying and gripping means stronger, more mobile muscles, ligaments and tendons. From functional training to primal movement, you will experience improved performance.

Your feet are a vital sensory organ when exercising. Training barefoot nourishes your brain- sole connection, getting your synapse firing and improving your proprioception. It will change how you move and perform.

Learning to run in minimalist footwear means relooking at how you run. Running with a straight, upright posture, ensuring your feet are landing under your body, is key to barefoot success.

Your stride length and ground contact time are vital when running. Reducing both will improve your efficiency and reduce injury. Try and aim for a cadence of around 180 steps per minute.

Sometimes we forget, but running can be an activity we enjoy. Try to relax, control your breathing and savour the benefits of being outside and moving the way nature intended.
